what is the approx mileage that a v8 xc90 volvo engine will last?
A: It depends if you take care of you car. Oil change and so on... I have a 2000 volvo s80 and it has 215000miles on it and it is stil running
Q: What are your thoughts about Volvo XC90 (2005 or above)?
My wife and I are looking at Volvo XC90 (2005 or above) for our family. We have two toddlers (2 years old) and one on the way. From most of the SUVs that we looked at Volvo XC90 was the most appealing. I would like to know if:
a. XC90 is reliable (problems prone???, any recalls)
b. Cost of ownership\maintenance (from real life experience)
c. Resale value
Thank you and looking for your response.
A: The XC90 is a great car. 2005 or newer is the way to go, the earlier ones had some problems.
DO NOT BUY THE T6 though. Transmissions made by GM fail frequently. The V8 is great, and the 2.5T is economical (and still decent performer)
It has a great safety record and they are reliable. I'm not sure why you are worried about recalls, since they don't cost you anything. Any time the car has visited a Volvo dealer it gets checked for recalls.
It's not cheap to maintain, but it's a luxury SUV, so that is not unexpected.
Q: How to reset the service message on a 08 xc90 Volvo?
Please, do not tell me "Go to the dealer"
A: Solution one - how about actually going to the dealer?
Solution two - press the "read" button on the end of your signal stalk.
Q: Would a BMW x3 be good as the first car? And a Volvo xc90?
I'd buy an used one.
What I want are some advices on big cars which will keep me safe in case of an accident.
For Justin F: I don't partecipate to the ruin of your nation's economy since fortunatelly I don't live in the USA.
A: I gotta say, I wouldn't recommend either of them as first cars. Both of them are large, powerful cars with a huge number of gadgets to distract new drivers. If you're dead-set on getting an SUV, I'd suggest getting a used Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's got plenty of power, lots of nice safety features, excellent off-road and poor-weather capabilities and are much, MUCH cheaper to fix should something go wrong. Just an oil change for the BMW could run over $100, and the Volvo wouldn't be much better. And should some mechanical part fail, having to ship the parts from overseas will at least double the cost.
Either way, the safest choice is going to be the one you feel most comfortable in.
Q: What are the procedures to replace a fuel pump on a 2006 Volvo XC90?
A: I'm pretty sure on these cars you can't do anything to it, fuel pump and filter are not accessible. A dealer has to do it.
Q: how much boot space is there in a volvo xc90?
is there more boot space in the volvo xc90 than there is in a bmw x5
A: yes the Volvo not only has more room it is also more usable than bmw [xs]
Q: Is it expensive to maintain a 2007 XC90 Volvo, i am considering purchasing one.?
A: It is an expensive car to maintain because of it's problems. Transmissions are big problems with XC90's. On average they can cost about $6000 to replace out of warranty. There are software issues also. But those are easily fixed with a software update at your local dealer, but you have to usually pay for an hour of diagnostics and the cost of the software (about 100-120 dollars). They go through brakes and tires VERY quickly. I've seen tires need to be replaced in 15,000 miles. There are also issues with water leaking in the sunroof area, which floods the floor. This is easily fixed at the dealer in two days but can cost a bit also. The water leaking doesn't usually come back after it's fixed once.
However, on the upside, I would get an XC90 myself, because they are roomy cars. Also they are very safe. They have a lot of really innovative safety features. Also, the options you can have on them, for the family are endless. From DVD screens in the headrests, to Bluetooth for you to iPod adapters.
If you buy one I would go to the dealer and purchase an extended warranty for the tranny issues alone.
Q: Has anyone found the answer to the latest riddle of the Volvo xc90 hunt - the semi-final clue?
The clue is - All eight but one will see the same for you to find the final name.
A: The keyword for Port Royal is obtained by using the eight eyed card and placing the upper left most eye over the s from the location hollow trees and turning the card at a 45 degree angle (approximate) towards the serpent.
The letters shown in the eyes are:
Upper Left - s (from hollow treeS)
Upper Right - s (from Six islands)
2nd Row Left - s (from shallowS)
2nd Row Right - s (from six iSlands)
3rd Row Left - s (from horSe bay)
3rd Row Right - s (from six islandS)
Bottom Left - s (from South cape)
Bottom Right - t (from serpenT)
Reading from left to right, top to bottom, you arrive at: ssssssst
To solve this puzzel you must go back through the previous locations and find the obvious letters and numbers written somewhere.
1) Sargasso Sea - Nothing
2) Bermuda - 2 on box lid, 5 on plate
3) Madiera - 5 on door, 8 on wine cask
4) Tropic of Cancer - N
5) Saint Helena - 7
6) Saint Mary - 7
7) Pulau Jong - 1
8) Diomede - Nothing
9) Isla Mas A Tierras - 3 on rocks
10) Cape Horn - Nothing
11) Cozumel - W
12) Isla Culebra - Nothing
13) Port Royal - Nothing
Using the numbers derived from each of the locations (and the order in which they were obtained, if more than one number was obtained, such as on Bermuda and Madiera)
2 - Bermuda
5 - Bermuda
5 - Madiera
8 - Madiera
N - Tropic of Cancer
7 - Saint Helena
7 - Saint Mary
1 - Pulau Jong
3 - Isla Mas A Tierras
W - Cozumel
Put them together and you arrive at:
2558N7713W which will take you... somewhere.

Q: Which car between the Volvo XC90 and the BMW X3 is better overall!?
In terms of gas comsumption, safety, warranty, performance, and style
A: I have a 2007 BMW X3 and all I can say is Wow. This car has the capabilities of an SUV, the sportiness of a car and the looks of a BMW. Reliability is perfect other than routine oil refills, and a flat tire. BMW's Warranty is better than most companies with everything from brake pads to windshield wiper fluid being covered. In terms of gas consumption, with the 19" Y-Spoke Rims, Mid Grade Fuel, Highway Miles, and a Lead Foot, I am managing around 22MPG. Safety; the BMW X3 has earned its place on IIHS's Safe List for SUV's. When it comes down to style, the X3 looks best with the sports package and the 19" Y-Spoke Rims. If you do a lot of winter driving, I would not recommend them. I have it in Monaco Blue with Tan Leather and Black Accents. The Leather feels of excellent Quality and the seats are very supportive. THe only thing on this car I would change is a less-stiff suspension and a lower price tag. The Volvo is very competitive on price, but the X3 is definitely worth it. In my opinion, the Volvo is outdated and relatively slow. Go for the X3, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Good Luck
