Q: What kind of problems should I expect to find in a 2001 Volvo S80 2.9?
I've been searching for a new car for a while now and I recently looked at a 2001 volvo s80. it has 95000 miles on it and is being sold for $5000. Is this car known for problems?
A: My Dad owns this car. Other than a recall for the throttle body, the car has been trouble free for the 100k+ miles that he has owned it since new. As long as the car was well maintained, there should be no problems.

Q: How is the MPG on a 2001 volvo s80?
I'm a college student^^. I've found this used 2001 volvo s80 2.9 l6. The owner wants 7k for it. It's in good condition. However im concerned about the MPG. The owner tells me it doesn't consume that much but I'm not sure if I should believe him. So can anyone tell me about the MPG for that car?
A: My Dad has this *exact* same car. He's a fairly aggressive driver, yet still manages to average around 19 mpg with mostly around town driving. With a 21 gallon fuel tank I've seen a range as high as 540 miles on his trip computer when the tank was full after a long highway drive which would translate to about 25.7 mpg. Sounds like a good deal, good luck with the car!!!
Q: Does anybody know much about Volvo S80 automatic gearboxes?
As you guessed I have a Volvo S80 with a faulty Automatic gearbox. I believe the fault is with a solenoid sticking, and have removed the sump plate to try to access the solenoids, but I cannot work out what is and isn't removable or even if I am looking at them already. I have a silver sphere and another silver figure of 8 sphere I am looking at, on the figure of 8 there is printed 1-2 on one side and 2-3 on the other, and the single sphere has 3-4-5 printed on it. Can anybody tell me if these are the solenoids or whether its safe to remove them? How do I get at the solenoids from this point?
Thanks in advance for any help any of you can offer
A: I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your question, but I felt sorry for you as nobody else seems to either. Good luck!

owner reviews:
I have approx 85,000 miles on mine, and since I hit the 70,000 mileage mark, I have had problems every 6 months. I have spent approx $3,000 in repairs in the last year (and some repairs were covered by warranty). Had my throttle plate replaced in Sept 05.
The mass air flow system took 2 dealerships, 4 visits and failed of the mass air flow sensor before it was determine to be the problem. Their machines kept telling them the car was running fine. Multi CD changer failed and unwilling of the dealership to replace it knowing it was known problem after the warranty expired.
Front suspension goes out quick, Electrical problems inside and out. Windows and interior lights go out and then come back on.
My owners manual is extremely lacking. As other reviews stated my car seems to have electrical issues. I open the sunroof and it will not close. My alarm has gone off for no reason, the remote is lacking on any distance. The car was expensive($19,000.00) for the year and mileage(48,000). The car doors don't always close all the way. The cup holders are a strange size, especially the water bottle holders in the door. I have already had to have my headlight replaced, my service guy stated that this car will go through more bulbs than any other car I have owned. My trunk is fiberglass, what is with that?? My husband and I think we need new brakes and struts
the electrical system is possessed. My car actually locked me inside it. However, after servicing, I have not had another issue - and that was 2+ years ago. I have also experienced the brake pedal lowering after stopping, but I was prepared for that after reading warnings from other owners. I have taken this car on many long drives of 10+ hours, and it handled well. I will say that for one trip I added a hitch and toted a small trailer that was well within the weight limit - DO NOT try that!!! Apparently this is just way too classy a car for a tow, it set all kinds of transmission lights flashing, but everything was back to normal as soon as the trailer was de-hitched.

Q: I have a 1999 Volvo s80 Service code of P0741 and P01618 and feels like it is stuck in 3rd gear.?
The fluid is at the correct level, but the garage says that it is burnt and that the only sure fix is a replacement at just less than 4k.
A: If this is a T6, it would not be surprising that it needs a transmission. They have weak GM transmissions.
