Q: I lost the key to my 2000 Volvo V-70. Can I get a key made to start it without towing it to a dealer?
The Volvo is on Nantucket Island far from a dealer on Cape Cod. To get it to a dealer, I would have to have it towed onto the ferry, then towed off to a dealer. Bummer! I know I can get a key made to open it, but that doesn't accomplish much.
A: Sorry, but most vehicles come with what is called a PATS (preventative anti theft system). Most keys now have little computer chips inside them that have to be connected to the dealer diagnostic computer system. You can cut a key to get in but it won't start the car. In most cases if you have two keys you can use those to prgram another but if you have no keys you probably need to cut & program two. I work at a dealership and hear the same question every day. Q: Volvo dealer says, I need new rear rotors and pads. The car wobbles a bit, but I hear no "metal on metal".
Feel like Im getting ripped off beacuse Im a young woman. The Volvo guy says "it's metal on metal" and I can "see for myself". I do know what metal on metal sounds like. Is it actually possible they are correct? I thought by going to the dealer and paying way to much they would be straight as for Nationl Standards. Help!!!
A: First, you do not say if it wobbles when you are driving along or only when you apply the brakes. If it wobbles while driving, it is probably not brake related. It is more likely a bad tire or something in the steering or suspension, like a tie rod or ball joint. If it only wobbles when you apply the brake, it is probably one or more warped rotors. Get a second opinion.

A: you can use "black pearl" to get you started but my official map had a code that contained numbers and letters.
Q: How do I reset the "time for regular service" reminder on a 2003 volvo V70 without taking it to a dealer?
A: On the trip meter, you must be in T 1 to reset the service reminder.
Turn the ignition key to position 1 then press and hold the trip meter reset button and wait for the mileage to reset to zero then turn the key to position 2.
Hold the button until the service light flashes 2 times or the previously displayed mileage to return.
Then release the button and then turn the key to off position.
Q: Is there anyway to reset the computer in a 99 volvo s80 without going to the dealer ?
A: i own a repair shop and it has to be done with a scanner,any shop that has one of these can do it,the dealer isn't the only one who can do it,but it has to be a shop that has the right tools to do it with,good luck with it hope this helps.

A: Just wash the car, and clean the interior. Thats about all you can do. Leave the engine compartment alone, as cleaning some parts can cause damage. The dealer will decide on over all condiotion what the value of the vehicle is worth, generally less then book value if it is a cash sell, and close to book value if it is a trade in.

ihave a 2000 xc70 volvo wagon. per manuel and dealer they reccomend high test gas.i filled the tank approx. 2 weeks ago and shortly after that the car was running rough and bucking i put dry gas in and it improved but very little.i put another dry gas in and it improvrd a greatly. but today it is worse. do you think its water,after all not many people use high test, have no idea how long that gas sits at the station.will putting a 3rd dry gas in the tank hurt the engine.i did put fuel injector cleaner in also.Fuel filter? the air filter is new what else can i do? i am hoping to aviod getting it serviced. good and honest mecanics are hard to find, as twice this past year our other car had an issue a was given an $850.00 for an engine job,sparkplug broke off into engine.i told my husband to just go at it and drill it out with one of those tap-drill bits, it cost us a total of $9.95 for the cost of the bit and within 5 minutes the plug was out and car ran great, i could go on, but i need to try something before i go to the dealer..THANKS FOR ANY ASSIST, SHIRLEY
A: If it is a turbo model, you must use high test or the car will not run properly - and you will get worse gas mileage with lower grade gasoline than with higher grade fuel.

Q: I have the Unlock Code for my Volvo Radio but now what?
I have the code from my dealer for my Volvo radio, but now what do I do? My radio just sayd "OFF".
A: The word OFF means the radio is' locked out' for anti-theft. The way to unlock the radio is to: #1 turn the key to the on position for 1 hour. This erase the lock-out code. The radio will then display 'Code' or 'On' You now can enter the 5 digit code from the dealer. You can only enter the wrong code 3x before you will be locked out again. Did the dealer give you the code off the VIN of the car or number off the radio?
Q: Volvo S40 year 2001 problem with the revs?
Has anyone come accross this problem - after driving and then sitting in traffic or just left running the revs are moving between 1,500 and 2,000. The garage assumed it was the EGR Valve and have cleaned it twice. They also cleaned the throttle body housing and still to no avail. I spoke to the Volvo dealer who serviced the car two and a half years ago, who mentioned it maybe a build up of carbon of which it could be to the extent of getting the entire engine de-coked.
Any ideas please.
A: assumed...mentioned maybe??? take it to a real shop..the ck engine lite has to be on...scan it and fix whats really wrong...assumed??? first answer may be right...how does it run with all accessory's off? could be throttle position sensor...bad temperature sensor.....idol sensor...dirty injectors or air cleaner....has it been tuned in last 50,000 miles??

Q: Volvo S40 Steering shakes while driving at highway speeds?
I am starting to really get frustrated here. I have been bouncing back and forth between the tire dealer and Volvo for the better part of today.
Let me back up.. I brought the car to 05/01 for severe shaking and humming noise, they told me I need 4 tires, I bought 4 tires, and the problem didn't stop. Went back they said change the fuel filter and spark plugs. Again to no avail. Went back 3rd time was a charm... I needed new left and right front axles. Got the car back yesterday and still have an issue with shaking. Got tires re-balanced and another alignment. Still didn't fix it. Also noticed that the cotter pin was missing on front axles. Volvo Said they don't use them, sent me on my way back to tire place. Got new tires 2 weeks after 1st set and still the steering wheel shakes at highway speeds. Tire place said it's not the tires its the car.. Volvo Said not the car the tires. Any suggestions here?
A: Go back to the tire place and insist the test drive your car, or take them for a ride yourself to show them EXACTLY what it's doing.

Q: Does the Volvo V50 really need Premium Gas? Is there a lot of Maintainance required for the V50??
We don't live close to a Volvo dealer and would not want to drive all the way to a dealer to have maintenance done. Do you have to go to a dealer to get the maintenance on a Volvo V50??
A: is that car a turbo or not. turbo cars need premium gas if u dont have a turbo i think it would be ok. I work 4 a dealer and i no wut customers put the good shyt and that bad shyt in there turbo cars
