Q: Is it possible to build a sunroof on a 1988 Lincoln Town Car?
Or on any car? Lincoln did offer this option on Town Cars back in 1988 so there are some available. So is it possible to build/install one on a car that doesn't have one? If so how much would it cost? I think it might be possible I have seen a new Chrysler 300C and the owner turned it into a convertible

A: yes, look at aftermarket installers. It may be cheaper to buy another car that has one.

Q: What type of refrigerant does a 1992 Lincoln town car use?
I have a high end 1992 Town Car Cartier and want to recharge the AC but am told it may contain R-12 which would require a costly retrofit to R134A. Others have told me that some Lincoln's in late 1992 did come with R-134A. Any thoughts on which type would be more likely to be the case and if necessary, how expensive would a retrofit from R-12 to R-134A be? Thank's!

A: Some manufacturers used R-12 up through the 1993 model years, and switched to R-134 with the 1994 models. The EPA banned the production of R-12 ( Freon ) in the US effective January 1, 1996. More than likely your car was built to use R-134a refrigerant though. If it used R-12 originally though and has been converted to use the R-134a refrigerant, the attachment points where you hook up the hoses to recharge the A/C system will have also been changed. Different fittings for using R-12 vs R-134a. If the cars A/C system has been serviced and been functioning over the years I am sure it has probably been converted over to R-134a at some time if it didn't come that way. If not, the cost of the conversion is definitely cheaper than trying to obtain R-12 or similar replacement gas on the market. It has gotten very expensive, but it is still available in some places.

Q: How do you change the windshield wipers in a 1985 Lincoln Town Car?
I have a 1985 Lincoln Town Car and I can't figure out how to change the windshield wipers. I tried opening the hood and changing them that way but that didn't work. They don't pull straight up and turning them on then off when they are up doesn't work either. They just go back down. Can someone help me?

A: dr layne is right. Turn off the key, when wipers are midway up the windshield, so you can pull the arm straight out away from the windsheild, grab the wiper and flip it over. This will allow you to remove the entire head, not the arm. Then follow the directions that came with the new wipers. I would suggest replace the entire wiper head, not just the rubber piece and get an expensive set of wipers ($10.00), not the cheapest ($3.00).

Q: How do I stop rainwater leaking into a Lincoln Town Car?
Every time it rains clean water runs down the interior of the RF firewall on my wife's '99 Lincoln Town Car and finds it's way to the RR floor mat, where it stands up to 2" deep. I've been to dealers, garages, body shops, and auto glass shops, and nobody can stop it. Any ideas?

A: Have your wife or a buddy run water on the firewall while you look for the leak inside the car. Use a flashlight and once you find the leak plug it.

Q: What are the best shocks to get for a 1979 Lincoln Town Car?
I own a 1979 Lincoln Town Car and I want to upgrade my shocks. Also what closes the headlamp covers? Is it electrical motor or air hydralics?

A: Go to any muffler place like Midas or even Sears they have the correct shocks. And they are not air shocks like some dummy said on here. The head light doors operate by vacuum if there is no vacuum they automatically open it takes vacuum to make them close. probably need some of the lines changed if the car is all original under the hood and no one has started to alter things around it should still produce good vacuum which is all you need to make them close.

Q: where is the compressor for rear air shocks for a 96 lincoln town car?
my rear air shocks on my 96 lincoln town car does not stay up,the compressor use to come on,but doesn't any more, where is the compressor, and is there a relay or sesor that could be bad?I tried the switch in the trunk.

A: The compressor for the rear air suspension sits directly under the air cleaner housing, at the driver side/front corner of the engine compartment. Simply remove the air cleaner housing to access. Check for power and ground to the compressor, and if they are good, the compressor is burned out. You should repair the air leak to the suspension system or else you will have a repeat failure issue, if that's not addressed. Hope this helps.

Q: How many shop hours would I be charged to change a 8cly Lincoln Town Car Engine?
I have a 1999 Lincoln Town Car with many many miles on it. It is now knocking and blows smoke. I am considering putting a low mile engine in it because the body is great. I have found an Engine with less than 25K miles on it. Does anyone know how many shop hours I can expect to be charged to replace the motor? Also, what other parts would I need to pay for? I know about the cost to replace all the fluids, replace all the belts and filters. What other parts should be changed at this stage? Is this a job I could get a mechanic to do at home "on the side"?

A: your looking at about 10 hours to start for labor. Dont forget plugs and wires coolant and maybe engine mounts. do what it takes to make your replacement engine last ! not a driveway job.

Q: Will a flowmaster fit my 1993 Lincoln Town Car?
I had an muffler shop tell me that I'd have to get it adjusted, something about a flowmaster being too wide, and the Lincoln Town Car muffler being hidden and you have to get harnessess. Will it be able to fit, and anything special need to be done? Discuss.

A: it can be made to work.... one thing to remember when working on cars is almost anything can be done the question is how... your town car will simply have smaller pipes than the flowmaster... you can either put a reducer on it to make it fit or you can redo all the pipes to a bigger size.... redoing the pipes will give you the best performance.... you could put like 2 1/2" pipes or something... also if you have 2 separate pipes going back that will give you better performance... alot of muffler shops will run one pipe to the back and split it at the back to make it look like 2 pipes... this is called a dummy dual... you can also put an h pipe on it right behind the manifold, or headders, that will help with uneven pressure and make your engine run better... replacing your manifolds with headders will give you more power as well... it sounds good too... exhaust can be done so many different ways...

Q: What is the Top Speed on a 2007 Lincoln Town Car?
I was thinking about either buying a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria or a 2007 Lincoln town car and I was wondering what the top Speed was on Them. And which one is better for a family.

A: For the Town Car it's 106 MPH . governed For the Crown Vic, it's also 106 MPH, unless you get one with the Handling/Performance package which among other things includes dual exhaust and H or V rated tires. Those have a max speed of around 130ish.

Q: Why won't my 1985 Lincoln Town Car start up?
I bought a used 1985 Lincoln Town Car and without a jump it won't start. I took it into Shucks Auto Supply and they tested both the battery and alternator. Both were good. They said it might be the starter. I was wondering if it was a bad relay. Car starts up with a jump and drives good but as soon as I turn it off it won't turn over again. Anyone have any ideas of what is wrong and how to fix it? Thanks!

A: i don't think its the starter i think its the battery I know you said they checked it but if all it takes is a jump to start it then its the battery. Does it start slow and drag when you jump it? if not and it starts right up from a jump i would change the battery before the starter.

Q: How comes the Mercury Grand Marquis looks like the Lincoln Town car?
how comes it looks similar to the lincoln town car, and which one do u prefer? i personally prefer the lincon, but then again the mercury is also a nice car aswell, so would say they are both good as each other

A: Many vehicles are built from the same platform as a means of cost savings in research and development. This is certainly the case with the Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car. The difference is based primarily in trim levels. The nicer you want it, the more you pay. That goes for the brand of vehicle as well. The Mercury is seen as being more upscale than the Ford, and the Lincoln is the top dog of the three. The one you choose is based upon personal preference and your pocketbook.

Q: Does anyone have any information on the air ride suspension in the 1990 Lincoln Town Car?
Recently, the air ride suspension system in my 1990 Lincoln Town Car went out at the same time there was a leak in the power steering hose. Are these two systems related somehow? I have fixed the hole in the hose near the power steering pump, but the suspension seems dead in the water. Any suggestions?

A: Oh, the wonderful air bag idea. These were a Major problem! There should be no link to your two problems. There are kits to get rid of the factory bag system. Good luck!

Q: Water in the back passenger seat in a 2003 lincoln town car?
I got a 2003 lincoln town car and when it rains there is a huge wet spot that forms in the backseat carpet on the passenger side. It was like that couple weeks ago and it rained during that time too. Its not a little leak either it is soaking in that area. I was wondering were the leak would have come from. Thanks Yes it does have a sunroof

A: Good guesses, but it's not the sunroof, nor any of the previous answers. The leak is coming from the front, and the first place people usually see it is in the right rear floor board. If you pull the carpet back in the right front, you'll find that it's wet under there, too. Leak is from the cowl. Take the passenger cowl panel (black plastic piece at the bottom of the windshield) off. Under it, you'll see a sort of oval-shaped plastic piece, with a screen on top of it. That is the fresh air inlet for the Heater and A/C. The gasket that seals it to the firewall has failed. Remove it...it's two nuts. 11mm, if memory serves. Clean off the old gasket and reseal it. You can get some thick gasket material at Lowes or Home Depot that'll do the job, or you could even use a thick bead of silicone. Be sure to clean the surface it mounts to, also. (I actually use 3/8" 3M Ribbon Seal, which is butyl rubber for installing windows, but works great for this..you can get it at serious auto parts store, but not places like Autozone or Pep Boys) Also, clean all the excess leaves and tree debris from around the housing. That'll fix it. I've probably fixed over a hundred of these with the exact same problem, and maybe one of them wasn't caused by this.
