Q: Does any one know how to get check engine codes,2001 Kia?
2001 Kia Sportage. So far I have figured it out myself, but now the light will not go out. I don't want to pay $40-$50 for the diag and then let them put in an oxygen sensor for $120 or so and still have the light on. It runs great btw. Help please. Are the codes in the aftermarket service manual?

A: You still need to take the car in to get it looked at. Autozone or another auto parts store can pull the code for you; but a mechanic still needs to test the parts to make sure that they are bad. Otherwise, you're wasting money. As a side note, if you know how to test the parts yourself, you're money ahead. I bought a code reader for $150 and it's saved me a bundle.

Q: How do I fix my 2001 KIA Sportage with diagnostic Code P0171 Fuel system Lean Bank1?
The engine idles rough, throttle cable has a little stretch/droop, manifold gasket might be leaking it has oil stains around it. Had 60000 mile tune up currently has 80000 miles. Air cleaner is clean & PCV valve is new. MAF sensor is old origional. Idle speed control is origional. Coils & wires are origional.

A: you just stated the intake has oil around it. these OBD 2 cars I was told have a HIGHLY accurate mas air flow sensor system that detects the slightest leak in or around the intake. by that I mean down to a matter of 1 or 2CFMs. We got rid of a bonneville becasue we couldnt clear the 171 code after replacing the whole intake. So hang onto you're hat it could get very expensive. If you have a v6 you may have an o2 sens on each exhaust manifold. & 1 behind the cat conv.

Q: 2001 kia sportage shut off while driving, mechanic says timing belt, would the valves warp easily?
Vehicle made no noise when it shut off, just lost all power and pulled it over and had it towed home, mechanic says timing belt went out and valves may be warped.

A: sorry, but yes the valve will have been broken, you'll need to check the cam and cam bearings too, the cam sometimes looks ok, but the shock can cause hairline fracture, we did one last week where the cam looked ok but was cracked, that was a kia too, the jeep type, sportage. good luck btw the belt wasn't due for a change but had worn out on the cover

Q: Can anyone tell me how to tow a 2001 KIA 4x4 sportage? Can it be towed on a dolly?
It is a automatic. I have been told 4 different ways and would like too hear from someone that has towed one of these

A: sure thing since they are not no wider than a car a dolly would work great, or a car trailer where you are not using the wheels at all or you could even tow pullit with a tow rope, make sure any way you do you got help because cars,4x4, ect all roll and can get away from you, just make sure the kia is in neutral..

Q: 2001 Kia Sportage. My rear tail lights have a mind of their own. Some time they work and then they dont. . ?
Any ideas on where to look?

A: If they're intermittent, I'd look at the wiring first. Check for a bad ground or a loose contact. It could also be the fuse if it's not held securely ( pushed all the way in ) in its place in the fuse box.

Q: So what all do I have to remove to get to the spark plugs on a 2001 Kia Sportage?
I ALREADY KNOW THAT I HAVE TO REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM THE TOP OF THE ENGINE TO GET TO THE FIRST 2, & THAT THEY'RE UNDER 2 COILS BUT WHERE ARE THE OTHER 2?

A: remove the air intake manifold, unscrew the throttle cable's and you will find a black cover with 8 bolt type srews, undue them and remove, then unscrew the two coil packs{they look like a black rectangle with wax ontop},pull up firmlyand the plugs will be located undrneith. you will also see 2 round rubber plugs pull those up also, those are the other two plugs.

Q: My 2001 Kia Sportage is having so many issues?
First I was told it the #3 cylinder needs a grind job so basically bad engine...now I smell gas and see that most of these kia sportages between the years 96-02 have bad fuel tanks and there was a recall but they trick you by not covering all the vin numbers. Should I just call it a lemon and move on or try to get it repaired? I have about 54k miles on it

A: I've done a little checking on this, and you are right. A lot of people are having this kind of problem. I am really surprised a class action lawsuit hasn't developed yet... These vehicles have a very low resale value, and in damaged condition it's almost scrap. So, with that in mind, how much do you like your vehicle? It is a 2001 which is a plus for age, but if it has a lot of miles (80,000 or more) it may be time to cut your losses. Kia is a struggling manufacturer that hasn't quite got the quality issues worked out. But they are a cheap vehicle to buy. Good Luck in whatever you decide!

Q: What was the total freight tonnage handled at the Kia as of 2001? International %? Domestic %?

A: Not enough info to answer the question. Even if one assumes that you are talking about Kemco International Associates (KIA), they are contract shippers by air and sea so no hard answers available.

Q: I bought a 2001 Kia Sportage EX. I have an AM/FM CD player in the car and I was told that there is a separate

A: Go to the KIA WEBSITE AND ASK THEM>

Q: Hi,How do you change the front wheel bearings on a 2001 Kia Sportage 4x4?
Have already changed rotors and pads.

A: by saying to the mechanic "fix it" unless you happen to have a 20 ton press, you won't be able to press out the old bearing or press in the new. my sister can do rotors and pads

Q: Can not deactivate the theft deterrant in our 2001 KIA when we put key in door.?
Help can not figure out how to turn off the theft deterrant in our 2001 KIA.

A: door lock cylinder switch may be bad. try other door. Look in your owner's manual for further assistance, or call your local Kias dealer

Q: where are the spark plugs on a 2001 kia sportage 4x4?
i have never had such a problem trying to find the spark plugs before. it was easy with my other cars but on this engine i can't even find the wires. i'm not that mechanically inclined so the more specific the better. please help! thanks :)

A: Look at the valve cover you will see some screws take these out lift off the cover and you will see coil packs and wires underneath the plugs will be underneath the coil packs and wires 3 to 4 inches down in the valve cover. It is just a different design it is really throwing a lot of people off.Good Luck

Q: What does the fuel psi regulator in a 2001 Kia Sportage look like and where is it located.?

A: Look closely at the "rail" that feeds fuel to the injectors in the intake manifold...the fuel pressure regulator is located in the rail.
